Ubertor has been teasing a new mystery feature on their weblog for days. What is it? Text me and I might tell. No, wait. Text them. What they’re offering is live chat for their agent web sites with live bodies at Ubertor to pick up the chat-slack. I’m nobody’s shill (and we code all our own web stuff by hand), but Ubertor really does seem to go the extra mile.

I’ll be interested to see if this is a success. I tried the Live Chat feature on my website this past year. After the initiation period of programming myself to login when I was online and logoff when I was not (which I failed miserably at for the first few months), I found that the only people using the feature were past clients dropping in to say “hi”. Email or the telephone would have been just as effective. By Ubertor committing to “staff” the chat, that overcomes the first problem. I am still on the fence, however, as to whether or not site visitors will see the value. Then, there is always the anonymity issue. Do visitors really want dialogue or do they just want content? Give Ubertor credit for trying something new, however.

I agree. Chat features have been around for a while, and you know they’re getting used almost never. Putting real people on-line is very smart.
